For several decades now the Fakenham and Dereham Talking Times has been providing fortnightly recorded extracts from our local newspapers for the benefit of those with poor sight. More recently the content of the recordings has been widened to include a “magazine” section which contains a variety of items ranging from quizzes, serialised books, stories, cooking and gardening articles, together with pieces of local interest.

Each fortnight, volunteers record items from local newspapers, mostly the Fakenham, Dereham and Wells Times, which kindly supports the Talking Times with free issues of the paper. The items selected and assembled for the magazine by the magazine editor are added to the recorded news and the total copied to computer memory sticks which are then distributed, free of charge, by Royal Mail. Every fortnight the returning memory sticks are recovered for use in subsequent weeks and the whole process starts again.

You are welcome to browse our website, which gives more information on our activities, including how to receive the Talking Times.
